Weddings, Vacations, Birthday Celebrations, Family Gatherings--these memories are precious to all of us. Home movies, prints and slides are your records of these events.

Over time your old movie films, prints and slides can deteriorate, become brittle and the images can begin to fade. Once lost, they may be gone forever. Video Transfer is the ideal method of moving these precious memories out of the closet and into your television set.

Main Photo & Imaging Service takes special care at every step to ensure top quality video reproductions of your movies, slides and prints.   Music and Titles can also be added to increase your viewing pleasure.

We offer a variety of Video Output solutions to meet virtually any viewing requirement.  Oftentimes these services are intertwined and very dependent on the type of film, print or media you start with and what you would like to do with it.

To get started please choose a description below that best describes what you require and we'll do our best to give you all of the options available.  This way you can select the best solution that best suits your requirements.

Movie Film (8mm & 16mm) to Video

Your movie film is projected through specially designed projector equipment, directly into a broadcast quality video camera.  This process works with both color or black & white movie film.  We have the ability to handle 16mm, Regular 8mm, Super 8mm both sound and silent.  Yes!! We can even transfer Polaroid Polavision and Technicolor Magicartridges to video as well.

Various formats of videotape are available for your convenience.  We use only the best, professionally rated VHS, 8mm (Video 8), Hi-8 and 3/4 inch videotape.  Movies, Slides and Prints can be mixed on any one order. Each size of movie film and type of original constitutes a separate format.

A standard 3 inch reel of Regular 8 and Super 8 (Sound or Silent) movie film holds 50 feet of film which runs for approx. 3 minutes. 16mm (Sound or Silent) movie film on a standard 3 inch reel holds 100 feet of film and also runs approx. for 3 minutes.  General guidelines for how much movie film can fit onto a videotape is as follows:

Film Type Projection Speed 30 Min. Tape 60 Min. Tape 90 Min. Tape 120 Min. Tape
Regular 8 mm 18 FPS 450 ft. 900 ft. 1350 ft. 1800 ft.
Super 8 20 FPS 525 ft. 1050 ft. 1525 ft. 2100 ft.
Super 8 * 24 FPS 600 ft. 1200 ft. 1800 ft. 2400 ft.
16mm 24 FPS 1000 ft. 2150 ft. 3200 ft. 4350 ft.

* Depending on the camera equipment used, Super 8 film could have been shot at 20 FPS (Frames Per Second) or at 24 FPS. We will project at appropriate speed.

Here's what we do….As part of our normal handling of your order:

Titles and Music can be optionally added to enhance your view pleasure and your memory.

Polavision Cassettes to Video

polavision box2.jpg (12696 bytes)

Polavision film & the Polavision Phototape Cassette type 608 was made by Polaroid Corporation in the early 1980's.

Polavision film shows it's age by blistering and looks as if it's being shown in boiling water.  In order to preserve your memories it is highly suggested that you transfer these Polavision Cassettes over to videotape as soon as possible.

Main Photo & Imaging is the only Polaroid recommended source for doing these transfers in the United States. We must delicately break apart the cassette and the internal mechanisms in order to run the film through our specialized Polavision equipment. We regret that we must destroy the cassette in this process and it can not be reassembled.

There is approximately 37 feet of film in each cartridge. Once broken apart, your film is spliced together in the order you specify and transferred with the same considerations as regular movie film.

Various formats of videotape are available for your convenience. We use only the best, professionally rated VHS tape and DVD's available

Pricing is exactly the same as our regular video transfers prices except that we must add $4.00 per cartridge to cover the cost of removing your film from the cassette.

Titles and Music can be optionally added to enhance your view pleasure and your memory.

Technicolor Cartridges to Video
